Pompton Lakes council adopts 2024 municipal and special-improvement budgets and several ordinances

Pompton Lakes Borough Council voted April 24 to adopt its 2024 municipal budget and the 2024 Special Improvement District (SID) budget and approved a series of ordinances and bond measures.
The council approved the SID budget for 2024, $323,300, following a public hearing with no speakers and a motion to adopt for second reading and final adoption. The municipal budget was adopted on second reading and final passage with total appropriations of $10,913,472.87; the motion passed on roll call after a public hearing that drew no public comments.
Council also moved and approved an appropriation ordinance (Bond Ordinance 24-18) authorizing $526,232 for various borough improvements and issuing $501,150 in bonds and notes, with no public objections during the hearing. Several other ordinances were advanced: Ordinance 24-22 (refuse and recycling penalties) was introduced for first reading and set for second reading on May 8; Ordinance 24-19 (administrative code amendments) and Ordinance 24-21 (stormwater control regulations) were approved for final adoption.
Mayor Michael Serra and council members emphasized routine fiscal stewardship in voting on the budget. No members of the public spoke during the budget hearings.
What happens next: the municipal budget documents and water-rate notices will be posted by borough staff, and the borough will follow standard procedures for publishing the adopted ordinances and bond details.
