Pompton Lakes Eagle Scout to build boardwalk sections on Yellow Trail

Christopher Wilde, an Eagle Scout candidate and Butler High School student, presented plans to construct 14 sections of boardwalk ("bog bridging") on the Yellow Trail at Pompton Lakes Park. Wilde described the design as 4x4 bases with 3x8 planks across the top to create a stable walking surface across frequently overgrown and flood-damaged sections of the trail.
Wilde said the project has been approved by the Northern New Jersey Council advancement committee and that he plans to begin work in October or November with assistance from his troop and volunteers who need service hours. He told the council the project is primarily self-funded, will accept donations from family and discounts from local businesses, and that a similar section installed by an earlier Eagle Scout guided the design.
Council members and the administrator voiced support. Councilwoman Kent praised the project as an example of the value of preserved open space and committed to a donation. The council's trail committee recommended moving forward and the administrator indicated no municipal objections to the project.
Next steps: the council approved the project presentation and asked Wilde to notify staff before site work begins so any necessary coordination with parks and DPW can occur.
