Borough staff: demolition, PFAS work and sewer upgrades moving forward

Administrator Michael told the council that the borough is working with environmental consultant EcoEye Sciences on a site investigation for the former A-1 auto body shop. A pre-construction meeting for demolition is scheduled for this Friday; Michael said the consultant recommends demolition prior to remediation because underground storage tanks sit under the concrete slab and staff hopes the structure will be down in about three weeks so the site can be graded and eventually converted to parkland.
On water-quality projects, council members reported the Municipal Utilities Authority is advancing conceptual design for PFAS treatment at Well No. 3 and is pursuing funding through IBank. The MUA also purchased a house needed for a 1,4-dioxane treatment project and is evaluating interim rental income while final treatment design proceeds. Separately, the North Sewage Pumping Station upgrade is in design and is funded in part by IBank.
Council members said the projects are tied to grant deadlines; staff noted both Dawes Highway improvements and Lakeside Ave ADA curb ramp upgrades are out to bid with partial grant funding and are expected to be completed in early spring.
