Clay Mills, a volunteer youth coach, told the council that many teams struggle to find parent volunteers and suggested the city consider reimbursing volunteer coaches at the end of the season if they coached a high percentage of games (for example, 90–100%). "Is there a chance that maybe we could talk about coaches can get reimbursed entirely at the end of the season if they've coached, you know, a 100% of the games or 90% of the games," Mills said.
Council members thanked Mills and said staff would take the suggestion into account during the budget process. A staff member (Stacy) was asked to follow up on logistics related to coaching incentives.
Later in public comment, an 11-year-old identified as Henry asked the council for a kids’ wiffle-ball tournament once the wiffle-ball fields are available, saying he and friends "would like to do a tournament" because they had been practicing and wanted to play other teams. Councilors welcomed the idea and encouraged Henry to speak with Stacy, who the presiding official said would 'stew on that' and see what could happen.
Neither request resulted in a formal council action during the meeting; the presiding official noted the proposals would be useful input for the city as it considers the budget and programming.
