Colin Crampton, an Eagle Scout candidate, presented a proposal to install a permanent decorative "photo chair" roughly 8 feet tall and sized to seat two to three people as his Eagle Scout project. Colin described the chair’s dimensions and construction details and said the legs would be set into the ground by about two feet for stability.
Board members discussed multiple potential locations — the campground near the restroom and shower building, the downtown courtyard (west side), near the caboose, and other parks — weighing visibility, vandalism risk, parking/access and maintenance. Several members said the courtyard could produce the most foot traffic and business draw, while the campground offers 24/7 monitoring but would limit general public access to campers.
Board members and staff identified logistical requirements to proceed: Main Street District approval for downtown placement, park-maintenance review of anchoring and irrigation-sprinkler conflicts, whether concrete anchoring or bolting is required, and potential landscaping or mulch to control weeds around the base. Colin said he hoped to complete the project near September and asked how to record recognition; the board agreed to discuss the text or plaque with Main Street, and staff offered to bring the proposal to Main Street for their input.
Next steps: staff will present the courtyard option to Main Street District and park maintenance, finalize anchoring and signage details, and report back so Colin can obtain any required approvals and schedule installation.
