Board approves routine resolutions, appoints Jeff Arnold and hears public comment on business licensing

Alderman Atkins moved the resolutions, and the motions carried by voice vote.
During public comment, Christine Bunch of 402 Fourth Terrace urged the city to enforce business-license requirements and said several businesses appear not to hold a Smithville license or required state real-estate registrations. She named a list of local businesses she said should be reviewed and offered to provide staff a longer list.
The mayor appointed Jeff Arnold to the Housing Authority Commission; the board confirmed his appointment unanimously (6–0). The mayor noted Arnold—s family ties to long-serving board members.
Separately, the board briefly discussed whether the Economic Development Committee should operate independently from city boards; members asked staff to research the governance change and bring it to a future work session if appropriate. The meeting then adjourned.
