The Smithville Board of Aldermen voted 5-1 to adopt the city's fiscal year 2025 operating budget on a motion by Alderman Atkins. Mayor thanked "Rick and staff" for preparing the budget on time.
The administrator said the adopted budget "incorporates the assessed valuation, the mill rate that you all set last week, and the, water and sewer rate increases." An unidentified alderman asked for clarification, saying, "Just for clarification, does this include, any of the funds for 15% increase on proposed increase on, tax and on the water and sewer?" The administrator responded that the increase is included in the budget and that a public hearing on the rate increases is scheduled at the next meeting in conjunction with the reading of the budget.
Alderman Russell recorded the lone No vote in the roll call that carried the budget 5-1. The ordinance adopting the FY2025 annual operating budget authorizes the expenditures from municipal services as presented.
Next steps: the council will hold the public hearing on the proposed water and sewer rate changes at its next meeting before any rate increase takes effect.
