The Smithville Police Department presented a life-saving award to Detective Knowles for administering CPR that helped save an elderly woman, a police representative told the Board of Aldermen.
At the meeting the police representative described an Oct. 19, 2024 incident in which Detective Knowles, while training a new officer, was dispatched to a call for an unresponsive person. The representative said Knowles recognized agonal breathing and absence of a pulse, began CPR and continued for close to three minutes until a pulse returned; she then monitored the patient until fire and ambulance personnel arrived.
"Detective Knowles' response on the scene, her rapid assessment, and her decisive actions were instrumental in protecting and saving the life of this woman," the speaker said while recommending the life-saving award. The presenter added that this was the first time in nearly 10 years that the department had presented an award for administering CPR.
The mayor and other board members thanked Detective Knowles and encouraged colleagues to pass along congratulations.
No disciplinary or policy actions resulted from this recognition; the presentation served as a public acknowledgement of the officer's actions.
