Board honors officers, hears project and grant updates including ARPA stormwater work

Harrisonville ' The Board of Aldermen opened its meeting with service awards and a badge pinning before moving to routine business and departmental updates.

Mayor Zering presented a five-year service certificate to Corporal Samuel Williams and a 10-year recognition to Detective Christy Hunsinger. The chief (unnamed) described Williams as a crisis-intervention-trained officer and credited Detective Hunsinger with a decade of investigative service. The chief also announced the promotion of Dylan Bell to sergeant and oversaw a badge pinning.

In staff reports, administrators reviewed multiple capital projects: airport hanger repairs and a rescheduled ribbon-cutting, a $4,200,000 SBG contribution toward an I-49-related project, and the South Cedar project, noted as about 78% complete with the contractor subject to daily liquidated damages. Several ARPA-funded stormwater projects (Ash Street, Town Creek trail, James Street/Lee Barry improvements) were in bidding or review; staff said they hoped to have three contracts under way soon.

Public safety updates included a police drug take-back that collected 108 pounds of prescription drugs and recognition of Sergeant Michael Davis's upcoming retirement after 17 years with the Harrisonville Police Department. The fire department received $90,000 in federal funds toward new radios.

Aldermen used the reports to remind residents to vote in the upcoming election and to note Veterans Day events and local school sports successes. The meeting closed after routine approvals and a unanimous motion to adjourn.
