The Board of Aldermen adopted an administrative ordinance amending the FY2024 operating budget to cover demolition of the rear portion of the police department building and to finalize the financial portion of an MOU tied to a purchaser of the front half of the property.
City staff member Jeremy told the board the amendment was needed to "solidify the financial portion of the agreement" tied to an MOU with a purchaser who intends to buy the front half of the police department property; the city plans to demolish the rear half and proceed with property separation. "So we needed a budget amendment to have the money to do that demolition," Jeremy said.
Alderman Turner moved to suspend the rules and move Council Bill 65 to a reading; Alderman Doerhoff seconded and the board approved the motion by roll-call vote. A subsequent roll-call vote adopted Council Bill 65 as Ordinance 3714, the administrative budget amendment establishing the effective date and authorizing the expenditure for demolition.
The ordinance was described in the meeting as administrative in nature; no public comment was recorded and no amendments were offered during the meeting. The action allows staff to proceed with the financial and demolition steps referenced in the MOU and to coordinate property separation with the buyer and relevant attorneys.
