Harrisonville presents FY2025 budget with utility rate increases; final reading set for Dec. 2

City staff presented the proposed operating budget for fiscal year 2025 and told the Board of Aldermen the ordinance includes utility rate increases for water, sewer and electric that would take effect in the new year.
Jeremy, the presenter, said the document contained only a few moderate corrections since it was previously circulated: a previously omitted police dispatcher position was added back to the budget, and an earlier typographical error overstated electric‑department expenditures. "The electric department is not going to spend $113,000,000 this year. That is just $13,000,000," Jeremy said. He said both the water and electric rate increases are based on completed rate studies and are quoted in the ordinance language.
Jeremy also told the board staff expect to introduce a budget amendment at the next meeting to fund the demolition phase tied to improvements at the police building. After questions from aldermen about the federal ruling on mandatory salary increases and how it might affect the budget, staff said any required adjustments would be moderate and handled as the year proceeds.
The mayor and staff agreed to bring the ordinance back for reading on Dec. 2 for further consideration. No final vote on the ordinance was recorded in the available transcript.
