The Harrisonville Board of Aldermen opened its meeting with a swearing-in ceremony for the city—s new police chief and a presentation recognizing internal leadership.
A judge administered the oath to the new chief at the start of the meeting. The chief, whose name was not stated on the record, thanked the mayor, the board and department heads and said he wanted to establish a chief—s commendation for officers who go "above and beyond." He presented the first commendation to Lieutenant Darla Harris, noting she had served as interim police chief beginning 02/08/2024 and led the department through a difficult transition.
"Her leadership has been marked by an unwavering commitment to the department and the community it serves," the chief said as he read the commendation honoring Harris— service maintaining morale and continuity.
Mayor Zering and members of the board expressed appreciation for Harris— work. The board recessed briefly for a community cake reception following the ceremony.
