Warrenton staff report pool use, park maintenance and water‑main work; pickleball resurfacing planned for spring budget

City department heads briefed the Warrenton Board of Aldermen on Aug. 6 about seasonal recreation operations, park maintenance and infrastructure work.
Aquatics Director Elise Kramer told the board July attendance at the pool was 3,992 — about 100 more than at the same time last year — and said the department sold 32 new memberships, renewed two memberships and registered 54 "insurance memberships" through SilverSneakers and Renew Active. "We had 3,992 people come through the doors," Kramer said. She said a lifeguard class begins Friday with four people signed up and that the indoor pool will close for annual cleaning beginning Aug. 19; both pools are scheduled to reopen to the public on Saturday, Aug. 31 at noon.
Grounds Maintenance Director Justin Knoll reported staff had been busy catching up after heavy rain, hosted multiple baseball tournaments at the Sports Complex and handled pavilion rentals. Knoll said two playable pickleball courts are currently striped at Dyer Park but the net height and full court surfacing do not yet meet official specifications. "We're working with getting that fit into our spring budget to have a contractor come in and resurface that court," he said, describing discussions about whether to allocate space for additional pickleball courts alongside tennis courts in future work at Morgan Park.
Public Works Director Guy Jeevers reported infrastructure projects including an eight‑inch water main replacement on Second Street and valve work on South Morgan, sidewalk and service‑line repairs, asphalt cuts for manhole repairs, and an upcoming seeding schedule for the Veterans sidewalk planned for late August or early September. Jeevers also said controls are being installed at Well 6 and that the well is not currently in use while work proceeds.
No public comment was recorded on these items during the meeting. Board members asked questions about pickleball court surfacing and timelines; staff answered that resurfacing would be pursued through the spring budget process.
Next procedural steps noted in the meeting include the Aug. 14 dangerous‑building hearing; other operational items will continue through routine departmental work and budget planning.
