The Warrenton Board of Aldermen adopted an ordinance levying the city's 2024 property tax rate on Aug. 20, following a public hearing and a roll-call vote that passed 5–0. The combined rate approved was 0.4665 per $100 of assessed value, composed of 0.293 per $100 for general municipal purposes and 0.1735 per $100 for parks and recreation.
At the public hearing, a city presenter summarized revised property valuations from the county clerk showing $4,738,622 in new construction, a $4,573,729 increase in real-estate valuations and $164,893 in increased personal property valuations for 2024. Using those figures, the board estimated the tax rates would generate about $647,702 in revenue, with $406,809 allocated to the general fund and $240,892 to the park fund. The city's budgeted revenue for the year was noted as $655,464, leaving a projected shortfall of $7,762.
Finance Officer Megan Veldrick presented related June financials to the board, reporting sales-tax receipts and other revenue categories ahead of projections, which provided context for the fiscal-year outlook discussed during the meeting. The ordinance introducing the tax rate was read and approved as Bill No. 50-24; the roll call vote was unanimous.
Board members did not request further changes to the rate at the meeting. The ordinance sets the city's formal levy for the calendar and fiscal year 2024; the council did not discuss future adjustments at this session.
