Culpeper County supervisors approved accepting a $60,000 grant from the Culpeper Wellness Foundation to build a soft interview room for child victims and agreed to allocate a matching $60,000 from the county’s CIP match line.
Laura Loveday told the board that local partners — Human Services, the sheriff’s office and the youth network — reported more than 200 instances last year when children required interviews; when local space was unavailable, those interviews were done in Fredericksburg or Charlottesville. Staff proposed using a conference room adjacent to an available space at 155 West Davis St. for interviews, with grant funds covering construction of the soft interview room and the county match funding the conference room used in tandem.
Loveday said the PATH Foundation had been consulted on a $60,000 grant opportunity and that the Culpeper Wellness Foundation ultimately awarded the funds. Staff recommended using the county’s CIP grant match line that normally contains $100,000 annually; approximately $200,000 remained in the line.
A supervisor moved to accept the grant and allocate the local match as described; the motion carried on a voice vote. Staff will proceed with project planning and report back on procurement and timeline.
