School board authorizes RRMM Architects for Elementary School No. 7 design

The Culpeper County School Board voted unanimously to authorize the superintendent to enter into a design contract with RRMM Architects for Elementary School No. 7, administration said. The board approved the motion by voice vote, recorded as 7–0.

Administration told the board RRMM was the highest-ranked firm from a competitive process that attracted 15 offerors and five interviewees. According to the presentation, the design scope contemplates a roughly 75,000-square-foot building to house approximately 650 students in preschool through grade K–5, a bid alternate for solar panels and specifications adaptable for future elementary construction.

On projected professional fees, administration reported it is "right at, for general services, about 7.1," and cautioned contingencies or amendments could raise that figure. The board asked questions about energy-efficiency goals and whether solar would be part of the base bid. Administration said the project is being designed to pursue LEED-style energy-efficiency certification and that solar is included as a bid alternate that would require additional funding if selected.

The board approved the authorization to negotiate and execute the contract. Next steps noted by administration include finalizing the fee negotiation, completing schematic design, and returning to the board for subsequent contract amendments or construction authorizations.
