Board renews Real Hearst Farms agricultural district for eight years

The Culpeper County Board of Supervisors voted to continue the Real Hearst Farms Agricultural and Forestal District for another eight years.
Planning staff told the board that, as of the review, the district encompasses roughly 1,188 acres across 12 parcels. Staff and the Agricultural and Forestal Advisory Committee recommended renewal, and the Planning Commission concurred. "The district still has, a little over 1,000 acres... 1,188 acres in the Real Hearst Farm District and a total of 12 parcels today," staff stated during the presentation.
Staff noted that landowners enrolled in agricultural and forestal districts are notified as part of the renewal process and that no enrolled landowners had asked to withdraw during the current review. Members of the public spoke in favor of renewal, citing drought recovery and the value of preserving farmland.
A board member moved to approve the eight‑year renewal; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote.
The renewal continues the district under local ordinance (Appendix A, Article 8E) and the Code of Virginia procedures that govern agricultural and forestal districts. The renewal preserves the district's current protections and maintains its role as a tool to conserve farmland in Culpeper County.
