Culpeper Human Services asks town to help finance winter warming shelter at Saint Luke's

Peacock said the shelter and its community partners — including Encompass Community Supports and the winter-heat-shelter planning committee — served 62 people last winter, and roughly 30–31 of those individuals were from Culpeper. She told the council many people who use the shelter remain near the town to access services and resources.
The shelter operates for the worst months of the winter season, Peacock said, offering a warm, safe place for approximately 90 days. She asked the council to view the warming shelter as an augmented town service that complements county-funded programs and to consider an appropriate level of municipal financial support.
Peacock did not specify a dollar amount for potential town support. Council members thanked speakers and noted the request for consideration; no formal vote or budget allocation occurred during the meeting.
