Resident asks Camden County for clearer drone policy; commissioners say flight regulation is federal

Speaking from Cherry Hill, an online participant identified herself as Sarah Jocelyn and asked the board to provide information about county policy on flight zones, commercial drone licensing and protections for schools, protected areas and private residences. She said some portions of the county are within airspace used for Philadelphia-area operations and urged clarity about when drone use becomes commercial.
The chair responded that many of the regulatory issues raised are outside county jurisdiction and fall under federal authority. The chair noted pending legislation in Congress that addresses some drone policy questions and encouraged residents to contact their members of Congress for action. No county-level ordinance or policy change was announced at the meeting.
The board said it shares residents’ safety concerns and would forward the public’s interest in clarity to the appropriate staff, but reiterated that the county’s ability to regulate drones is limited by federal law.
