Officials said the county’s Board of Elections has been moved multiple times because of building issues, and the leased space would centralize election operations and related county services.
During discussion, county staff summarized prior space searches and options, noting previous attempts to buy or lease multiple properties and some facilities that required substantial work. Staff said appraisals and environmental reviews for 5914 Main Street met county requirements and that the appraisal was approximately $2.5 million.
Commissioner questions focused on lease terms and whether the lease payment reduces the purchase price. County staff said the current action is a short‑term lease only and that the lease would end if the county proceeds to buy the building. One commissioner said the lease “goes away, we purchase the building.”
The lease resolution was moved and seconded, commissioners asked for follow‑up briefings on strategy for election office space, and the board approved the lease by roll call (motion carries).
