Board adopts recognition, appointments and a series of grants and contracts including a $5M digital equity grant application

The Atlantic County Board of Commissioners voted to adopt a resolution recognizing Childhood Cancer Awareness Month (Resolution 506) after amending the text to include a Whereas acknowledging Shannon Hardy as a 30-year survivor and advocate and agreeing to fly a commemorative flag at the county building.
The board approved the appointment of Erin Linton Waller to the Atlantic County Criminal Justice Advisory Board. Mark Hansen, chair of the advisory board, introduced Waller and she described work training law enforcement on recognition and response for people with mental health needs and developmental disabilities.
In a series of roll-call votes the board passed multiple grant and contract resolutions, among them:
- Resolution 4-78: Grant application/acceptance from the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission for the State Community Partnership and Family Court Grant, amount not to exceed $654,836 — motion carried.
- Resolution 4-79: Grant application/acceptance from the New Jersey Juvenile Justice Commission for the Atlantic County Youth Services Commission home electronic detention system case management program, amount not to exceed $120,000 — motion carried.
- Resolution 4-81: New Jersey Department of State Division of Elections HAVA physical security remediation grant, $1,950 — motion carried.
- Resolution 5-02: Grant application/acceptance through the National Telecommunications and Information Administration for the digital equity competitive grant program, amount $5,000,000 with a county cash match of $1,531,500 and county in-kind match of $645,000 — motion carried.
The board also approved contracts and change orders, including a contract to South State Inc. for entrance pavement improvements (approx. $709,500), extensions for pharmacy services at Meadowview Nursing and a number of smaller procurement and contract actions. Each item was moved, seconded and passed by roll call as noted in the meeting record.
Next procedural steps: multiple awarded contracts and grants will proceed through normal procurement and acceptance processes; the board also amended its meeting schedule to cancel the Oct. 1 meeting.
