Tiverton superintendent to retire June 30; committee to begin search after election

The Tiverton School Committee announced that Superintendent Dr. Sanchione has submitted a letter of intent to retire effective June 30, 2025. Dr. Sanchione addressed the committee, saying the district is “thriving” in many internal measures despite external criticism last year, and urged members to focus on internal collaboration while preparing for a difficult budget year ahead. He listed recent accomplishments including new CTE programs, expanded AP offerings, higher attendance and a spotless audit record last year.
When asked about the superintendent search process, the chair said planning would wait until after the upcoming election; the committee noted that the five members seated after the election will decide whether to conduct the search internally or hire an external consultant. A committee member asked whether a headhunter would be used as in the previous search; members agreed the new committee will determine that choice.
The committee did not set a formal search timeline that evening beyond stating the intent to begin planning after the election. The meeting moved into executive session later to discuss personnel matters under Rhode Island General Law 42‑46‑5(a)(1).
