Senate committee advances $500,000 supplemental appropriation for Veterans Chamber outreach

Supporters from the South Jersey Chamber of Commerce and the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce also voiced backing, saying the funding helps veterans start businesses and connect with employers.
Robert McNulty of the Vietnam Veterans of America said his organization listed the bill as opposed on the committee slip because it had outstanding questions about prior spending and accountability. “We haven’t seen any accounting for that,” McNulty said, adding that absent information on how earlier allocations were spent his group could not yet endorse the appropriation.
Chairman Johnson responded that the committee would provide McNulty’s organization the requested information on the prior funds and their expenditures.
The committee moved to release S3264 as amended. The motion to release S3264 as amended was put and the bill passed as amended in the committee vote.
The next step for the bill is consideration by the full Senate or referral per the committee’s rules.
