Senate Judiciary Committee releases slate of gubernatorial and authority nominees

The Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously released a series of gubernatorial nominations — including two Superior Court nominees and multiple authority and commission appointees — sending them to the full Senate for consideration later the same day.
The Senate Judiciary Committee on Wednesday advanced a slate of gubernatorial nominees, releasing applicants to the full Senate for final confirmation.
Chairman Stack opened the session by calling roll and noting a quorum before moving through a series of appointments. The committee released the reappointment of Michael Antonowitz of Edgewater to the Superior Court after Antonowitz pledged to follow the New Jersey bench manual for jury selection and to accept electronic filings. Antonowitz thanked Governor Murphy, appointment counsel Valentina DeFevo and several local senators for their support.
Christopher F. Struben of Colonia, nominated to the Superior Court, received bipartisan endorsements from members including Senator Smith and Senate President Nicholas Scutari, who were cited by the nominee in his opening remarks. Struben said his 30-plus years as a trial attorney shaped his desire to serve on the bench and reiterated his commitment to even-handed application of the law.
The committee also released nominations for positions on several authorities and commissions. Jeffrey Nash of Hamilton described his tenure with the Delaware River Port Authority and outlined capital improvements, a modest recent toll increase paired with commuter discounts, and plans for the Glassboro–Camden–Trenton light-rail corridor. Al Comaffey was renominated to the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission; M. Earl Ransom was considered for reappointment to the Delaware River and Bay Authority; and Colonel Arthur Roscoe, a long-serving New Jersey Army National Guard officer, was nominated for promotion to brigadier general. Administrative law judge nominations, including Susan McCabe, were likewise moved out of committee.
Each nomination was followed by a roll call. Committee members — including Senators Testa, Buco, Smith, Gopal, Burgess, Singleton, Corrado, Bramnick and Sarlo, and Chairman Stack — voted to release the nominees; the clerk recorded unanimous yes votes on the matters called.
The committee moved the balance-of-list nominations on consent before turning to the single bill on the agenda. The full Senate is scheduled to consider nominations released from committee in its voting session later in the day.
