Senate committee advances package to tighten oversight of IDD providers after emotional testimony

Trenton — The Senate Health, Human Services and Senior Citizens Committee on Wednesday advanced a multi‑bill package intended to strengthen oversight, transparency and enforcement of services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
Sarah Adleman, Commissioner of the Department of Human Services, told the committee that the package would give the agency new tools to hold providers accountable for systemic failures, citing authority to impose financial penalties, to terminate payment authorization for chronically noncompliant providers and to create a director of medical services to improve medical oversight and investigations. "This bill package would empower us to hold providers accountable for those systemic failures," Adleman said in testimony.
