Committee releases bill to give detectives in criminal justice division civil‑service protections

Rob Nixon, speaking for the New Jersey State PBA, and Frank Crivelli, counsel for PBA Local 383, said detectives in the Division of Criminal Justice currently serve as at‑will employees who can be removed without due process. "They are the only law enforcement officers in the state that we're aware of who do not have protections under the law for due process while they're employed," Nixon said. Crivelli said the change would provide consistency in disciplinary procedures and improve morale.
Committee members heard the testimony and, without recorded questions, voted to release the bill for further legislative consideration.
