- Media arts: Beth Backus (Austin High School) said the media arts standards retain 18 anchor standards, add an extra high‑school level and include a half‑credit general media arts survey to broaden access to film, photography, audio and interactive media skills.
- Music: Paul Litton (Pelham High School assistant principal, presenting for the music committee) said the update adds general music options through high school (full and half credits) and a fundamentals of music industry course focused on music business and production.
- Theater: JB Stevenson (Alabama Educational Theater Association) described a four‑level theater sequence, expanded technical‑theater standards and new half‑ and full‑credit general theater options.
- Visual arts: Natalie (fine arts specialist, Montgomery Public Schools) described a half‑credit general visual arts course intended as a low‑pressure introduction that preserves breadth across creating, producing, responding and connecting.
Presenters said rubrics and clearer level descriptions aim to help teachers and counselors place students and plan progression across grades.
