Staff said the amendment is a codification of repeated discussions and will require entrance locations and designs to meet applicable VDOT road-and-bridge standards, including Appendix F on access management. The change intends to ensure entrances are designed and permitted by VDOT before county final plat approval.
A public hearing was held; staff said the draft had been discussed by the commission over several months. Commissioners described the amendment as a "much-needed addition to our code" and moved, seconded and approved the ordinance language by roll call vote.
Next steps: the ordinance amendment will be included in the county code per the standard adoption process.
