House backs resolution urging FERC to reconsider Wasatch variation of Kern River pipeline

Members from Davis County and other districts expressed concern over the current Wasatch variation passing near populated corridors and across areas with notable earthquake hazards. Several representatives declared conflicts of interest because the proposed route runs close to their property, and others pointed to international incidents to underscore safety risks.
The House voted 65 in favor and 5 opposed on the resolution and transmitted HCR32 to the Senate for further action.
What happens next: HCR32 will be referred to the Senate; the resolution is a formal expression of the legislature’s preference to influence FERC deliberations and public and federal attention to routing and safety considerations.
