Representative Kelly C. Atkinson introduced Substitute House Bill 201 to correct statutory language so that appeal referees at the Department of Employment Security are titled "administrative law judges." Atkinson explained that committee work produced an amended short title that failed to reflect language actually removed from the body of the substitute; she moved the committee amendment on the floor to fix the discrepancy. "These individuals have been called administrative law judges for years," Atkinson said, and she reported the department had no objection to the title change.
After brief questions and no extended debate, the House opened and closed voting and the Clerk reported 57 affirmative votes and no negatives; Substitute HB 201 as amended passed and was referred to the Senate for further action. The sponsor said she was available to answer questions but waived further discussion.
The change is technical and chiefly aligns statutory titles and short‑title language; no fiscal appropriation was discussed on the floor.
