House unanimously honors former state education leader James R. Moss

The Utah House on Jan. 28 unanimously adopted House Concurrent Resolution 10 honoring the late James R. Moss for his contributions to public education. Representative Bradford introduced the memorial resolution and many members offered personal tributes describing Mr. Moss's work as a legislator, state superintendent, and education leader.
Speakers recalled Moss's legislative service and leadership on education reforms and initiatives. Representative Bradford said Moss "had a unique gift for a very swift analysis of situations and... the articulation to accurately explain issues in understandable terms." Representative Atkinson, Representative Price, Representative Arrington and others described Moss as a driven and effective public servant who helped move education technology and reform efforts forward.
The House invited Mrs. Lavelle Moss and the Moss children to stand and recognized the family in the gallery. Members voted under suspension of the rules to spread the floor remarks upon the House journal and, at the family's request, to provide a transcript or tape of the speeches for their records. HCR 10 passed with a recorded tally of 74 affirmative votes and 0 negatives and was forwarded to the Senate for further consideration.
The House recessed following the memorial proceedings.
