House adopts resolution recognizing Utah State Capitol remodeling

The Utah House of Representatives on Feb. 1 adopted House Joint Resolution 14, a resolution recognizing the design and execution of the Utah State Capitol remodeling project and honoring architects, contractors, subcontractors and Division of Facilities staff.
Madam Reading Clerk read the resolution in full, naming project leaders and subcontractors the House sought to recognize. The sponsor described the project as an 'enormous undertaking' that improved the building’s accessibility and functionality and commended architect Kevin Watts, assistant Sylvie Glass, interior designer Norman Day, Jacobson Construction Company and numerous subcontractors for their work.
Representative proponents invited members of the public and honorees to the floor for recognition. The House considered and approved a pink‑sheet amendment replacing references to former Senator Wayne Sandberg with W. Gary Sandberg where appropriate; members adopted the amendment by voice vote and then voted on the resolution itself.
Voting was opened and closed; the clerk recorded 63 affirmative votes and 0 negative votes on HJR14 as amended. The resolution will be forwarded to the Senate for its consideration and the sponsor asked that copies be sent to the named individuals and companies.
The resolution highlights state officials’ view that the remodeling combined careful use of public funds with an emphasis on public access and staff needs and memorializes appreciation of those credited in the project.
