Utah House passes resolution honoring Chase Peterson

The Utah House of Representatives voted to adopt Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 1 honoring Chase Peterson, concluding remarks from members who credited Peterson with major fundraising wins for the University of Utah.

Representative Bradshaw, who carried the resolution in the House, introduced the measure and said he had worked "very closely with him when I was vice president of the alumni association." Bradshaw said Peterson "has been a giant in bringing donations to the University of Utah" and that the university "received far more in contribution than their size warrants." Representative Lewis added: "He's used a great wisdom and and foresight and great energy in a task that most of us would shrink from." Representative Yardley said Peterson is "a class individual" and that "the university is gonna have a big loss and a hard time to replace him."

The motion to consider the resolution under suspension of the rules and place it at the top of the third-reading calendar was made and accepted; the House later recorded the formal vote. The reading clerk reported that Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 1 "had received 68 affirmative votes, 0 negative votes," after which the resolution was transmitted to the Senate for the president's signature.

The resolution honored Peterson's service and fundraising for higher education; the measure will be finalized when returned to the Senate for formal signature.
