House creates State Water Development Task Force and adds conservation language

The House approved House Bill 364 to establish a statewide State Water Development Task Force charged with long-range planning for water development across Utah’s drainages. Sponsor Representative Evan L. Olson described the task force as covering the whole state and containing members from each drainage and other stakeholders to plan water-development priorities for the next five years.
During floor debate Representative Ben Jones offered an amendment to add text instructing how the state will encourage the implementation of water-conservation programs. "An important component of the water problem is conservation," Jones said, and the House adopted his amendment as friendly. Supporters stressed the task force would complement existing boards and the work of the Bear River Task Force, and would include legislative membership to coordinate statewide planning.
The bill, as amended, passed the House and was placed on the calendar for further consideration.
