Utah Senate concurs with House amendments, appoints conference committee on bond bill and sets veterans-nursing-home bill for 9 a.m.

The Utah Senate on Feb. 28 voted to concur with Senate amendments to First Substitute House Bill 244 and approved a series of consent items, authorized a conference committee on a bond bill and set Senate Bill 197 — related to veterans nursing homes — to a time certain of 9 a.m. the following morning.

The motion to concur with the Senate amendments to First Substitute House Bill 244 was put before the body and Speaker 3 described the change as a "two-word amendment" that moved wording from page 3 to page 2 and was a "clean up clerical type of thing." The motion to concur was called and, after the voice vote, Speaker 2 announced, "The motion carries." Speaker 2 later explained the bill remained on the board only so members could access it for reference and would be removed after the vote.

On the bond measure, the president of the Senate appointed a conference committee to meet with the House committee to consider or amend a house substitute to Senate bill (a bond bill). Speaker 1 identified the Senate appointees as Senators Steve Miller, Dean Mann and Jason Peterson. The body voted on a motion described in the record as "that we refuse to receive from the House amendments to House Substitute (general substitute) Bill 375" and to authorize the Speaker of the House to appoint a conference committee; members voiced "aye" and the motion carried.

Separately, Speaker 4 asked that Senate Bill 197 — described in the transcript as the Utah veterans nursing home bills — be moved to a time certain at 9 a.m. the following morning "due to a lot of people being here for the Utah veterans nursing home bills." After the motion was made and called, Speaker 2 announced the motion carried.
