House roundup: multiple committee reports adopted, bills read, and Ute Tribe leaders heard
Summary
The Utah House adopted a series of committee reports, read and advanced many House and Senate bills (including HB106 concurrence and SB12, SB70, SB72), and briefly sat as a committee of the whole to hear Ute Tribe leaders during the Feb. 16 session.
On Feb. 16, the Utah House moved through a dense agenda: the Rules Committee and multiple standing committees reported and had their reports adopted; the House read numerous bills by title and assigned them to committees; and several Senate bills were taken up and passed to the next step.
Notable procedural and voting actions included concurrence with the Senate amendment to HB106 (voted to concur; House tally announced as 60 yes, 0 no), and passage of several Senate bills including SB12 (traffic management committee) and SB72 (repeal of WIC sunset) with unanimous or near‑unanimous tallies. Senate Bill 70 (interstate banking changes) and other measures were also debated and carried on voice votes and roll calls.
The House briefly resolved into a committee of the whole to hear representatives of Native American groups. Stuart Pike, chairman of the Ute Tribe business committee, addressed the members and asked for support on tribal-related legislation (he referenced SB162 and SB47). He thanked state and county officials for negotiating on issues affecting the Uinta Basin and urged continued cooperation.
The day also featured recognitions for students from local schools, various technical and consent-calendar bills disposed of by unanimous consent, and scheduling announcements (committee meetings and caucuses). The House recessed after routine announcements and committee scheduling.
