House advances broad consent package and conference report on court filing fee bill

During the Feb. 20 floor session the House adopted multiple committee reports and moved numerous bills to calendars or the consent calendar. The Rules Committee report and supplemental reports were adopted; bills assigned or recommended for the consent calendar included measures on lien filing, alternative schools, radiation control, DEQ funding, child welfare reform, abuse of disabled persons, volunteer government benefits, county construction contracting, and several tax and license‑plate measures.
A joint conference committee composed of Senators Reed, Hilliard and Money and Representatives Fox, Boss and Harwood presented the conference report on substitute Senate Bill 48 (adjustment of court filing fees). The committee recommended reinstating a $30 fee in one provision (deleting $60), a change the committee noted would reduce revenue by approximately $78,000 but was acceptable to the Senate. The House adopted the conference committee report and the substitute SB48 passed this body and will be returned to the Senate for further action.
Other floor actions included placing substitute HB95 on the Health standing committee under suspension of the rules, setting HB296 (senior citizen center funding) for time certain at 11:15 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 22, and approving a range of consent items that will be read again and forwarded to the Senate. The clerk announced many bills passed on the consent calendar or were placed on third reading calendars.
