The Utah House adopted the Rules Committee report Tuesday and assigned a package of bills to standing committees, moving a slate of measures into the chamber’s committee and reading calendars.
Representative John Valentine, Rules Committee chair, presented the committee’s recommendations, listing measures to be printed or referred to committees including items on property records, higher education faculty, parental involvement, water and irrigation fees, retirement-plan amendments and several agency and task-force measures. The House approved the committee report by voice vote and accepted supplemental recommendations for HB197 and a second-substitute HB32, assigning those measures to State and Local Affairs and Education, respectively.
Clerk announcements following the adoption specified which standing committees will consider particular bills: Business, Labor & Economic Development; Education; Energy, Natural Resources & Agriculture; Health & Environment; Human Services; Judiciary; Retirement; Revenue & Taxation; State & Local Affairs; and Transportation & Public Safety. Several bills were placed on second reading and the third-reading calendar, while others were moved to the consent calendar pursuant to committee recommendations.
The action cleared the way for floor consideration and further committee work on a broad set of proposals. No vote tallies were recorded for the committee-adoption motion beyond the voice vote that carried the motion.
