Senate passes $2.4 billion supplemental appropriations bill

The Utah Senate voted to pass Senate Bill 2, the supplemental appropriations act for fiscal year 2024, on Feb. 28.
Senator Sanders presented the bill as a package of additions to appropriations already enacted this session, noting that the bill contains items recommended by the Executive Appropriations Committee and the appropriation subcommittees. The sponsor told senators that the bill “appropriates $2,400,000,000 including $610,500,000 from the general and income tax funds for fiscal year 2024” and transfers another $1,700,000,000 from general and income tax funds to other funds and accounts.
Senator Sanders said index packets (a lilac packet on desks) list each approved item and where it is included in the appropriation act. He answered no substantive floor questions before moving passage under suspension of the rules.
On a roll call, the Senate recorded the bill passed with 25 ayes, 0 nays and 4 absent. The bill will be sent to the House for further consideration.
