The House Aging Committee concurred in Senate amendment number 1 to House Bill 1523 on a voice vote, approving a change that Representative Dianne Vaught said came at the request of the state police.
Representative Dianne Vaught (District 87) told the committee the amendment replaces the bill’s earlier wording that would have created what proponents referred to as a 'purple alert' and instead establishes an 'endangered adult advisory system.' As Vaught put it, 'Instead of it being like an alert, it becomes an advisory committee, which also does go out to people. It just won't put people maybe into a panic about something about somebody missing.'
The chair asked for questions and hearing none allowed a vote. A motion to concur in Senate amendment number 1 to House Bill 1523 was offered and approved by voice vote ('All in favor say aye. Opposed no.'). No members of the public spoke for or against the amendment during the meeting.
The committee’s concurrence sends the amended language forward consistent with the Senate changes described by Rep. Vaught. There was no additional committee direction recorded and no amendments to the amendment were proposed at the meeting.
The committee then moved on to other business and later adjourned.
