Staff told the council they surveyed the neighborhood (43 responses) and that 'Freedom Park' was the plurality choice (14 responses); councilors discussed possible confusion with an existing regional 'Freedom Park' in Temple and amended the motion to add 'Neighborhood' to distinguish the sites.
The motion to purchase the playground from KYA Group via the BuyBoard cooperative and the motion to adopt the name Freedom Neighborhood Park each passed 6–0. Staff said the park will include a walking trail ~0.25 mile, benches, trash receptacles and dog waste stations, and that existing trees will provide shade for the playground.
