Belton council authorizes $234,009.06 purchase to furnish reimagined library interior

The Belton City Council on Aug. 27 authorized the purchase of interior furniture and finishes for the city library to implement a multi-year reimagining of the interior space.
Staff and consultant Michael Taylor presented renderings showing lower shelving heights, more wall-mounted shelving to open floor space, defined teen and middle-school areas, flexible mobile shelving in the children’s area, tiered seating for story time, and study pods for quiet use. Councilmembers asked about flooring and finish choices; staff said carpeting would be installed and some painting and light in-house work might remain.
Council moved to authorize the purchase through the Choice Partners cooperative in the amount of $234,009.06 and approved the motion unanimously. Staff said furniture delivery and installation will require a temporary transition and possible short closure of the library spaces while books are moved and the interior is set up.
