Belton council appoints and swears in 2024–25 Youth Advisory Commission

The Belton City Council unanimously appointed a slate of students to the Youth Advisory Commission for 2024–25 and administered their oaths of office at its Aug. 27 meeting. Staff recommended Kira Woods as YAC chair and presented the full slate, and Councilmember motion and a second carried the appointments without dissent.
Prospective members introduced themselves before the vote. Kira Woods said she attends Belton New Tech High School and participates in global language studies; Jahiah Lane identified himself as a drum major at Lake Belton High School and an officer in several student organizations. Other incoming members included Stella Loughborough, Madison Frazier, Jacqueline Gantavar, Anais Lopez Rodriguez, Akina Gonzalez and Finn Mok.
John Messer administered the oath of office and the council congratulated the students. The council recorded the motion to approve the appointments and the vote as unanimous.
The commission will serve for the 2024–25 year; staff recommended Kira Woods as chair and advised the council that the YAC will continue work that prior commissions had begun.
