The Hondo City Council on May 12 authorized the city manager to purchase and install lighting for the soccer fields at the Bridal Sports Complex, approving a not-to-exceed amount of $250,000 to be paid from general-fund reserves.
City Manager Naran told the council the estimate covers 25 light poles to fully illuminate the fields identified by the Hondo Youth Soccer Association and that the work would be phased across this fiscal year and the next as necessary. "The estimated total cost to complete the project in full is $250,000," he said, adding staff would use general-fund reserves and expect some return on investment from future tournaments.
Naran said the city would use BuyBoard procurement to purchase lights and materials and that staff would return with a budget-cleanup amendment and include the remainder in next year’s budget. He emphasized in the discussion that in-house lineman Gino and existing crews have experience installing similar baseball lights and could help deliver the project.
Council member speaker 9 moved to authorize the city manager to proceed with purchase and installation from BuyBoard in the amount of $250,000; the motion was seconded and approved by voice vote with no opposition. The transcript records no exact figure for the city’s current reserve balance beyond a staff comment that general-fund reserves were "over 180" (amount not specified); staff said expenditures would be captured in a budget amendment.
