Windcrest Parks Commission confirms trunk-or-treat participation, outlines Light Up season and cookie contest

The Windcrest Parks and Recreation Commission on Oct. 24 reconfirmed plans to staff a table at the Windcrest Police Department trunk-or-treat event and moved forward with scheduling for the city's Light Up season, including a community cookie contest on Dec. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Chairman Jim Flynn and commissioners discussed assignments for giveaways and volunteers, with Jay Eldridge and Lamar Lawson among those expected to help staff the trunk-or-treat table. "I just wanted to offer my thanks to chairman Jim Flynn who came to our block party during national night out," resident Cindy Salinski told the commission, thanking commissioners and staff for recent outreach.
The commission confirmed Light Up programming and a cookie contest with categories for cookies, desserts and tamales; entries must register in advance and commissioners set a judging cutoff of Wednesday, Dec. 4, to allow time to notify judges and coordinate logistics. Commissioners discussed recruiting at least three judges and suggested inviting local police or fire personnel to participate. Prize ideas included yard signs, newsletter recognition and invitations to the winners dinner in January.
Commissioners emphasized that theme submissions for the 2025 Light Up season should be submitted to the city secretary before the Nov. 14 commission meeting so the city council can make a final determination in time for the winners dinner. The commission noted about 60 theme submissions had been received so far and agreed to the prior-year process of assigning numbers to theme entries to keep the winner secret until the dinner.
