City Council renews SYB Construction contract for water/sewer "mile-per-year" program

The University Park City Council on Nov. 19 approved a second one-year renewal of the city's annual construction contract with SYB Construction for the "mile-per-year" water, sewer and alley replacement program.
Katie Barron, director of engineering, told the council the contract was first awarded in August 2022 for slightly more than $6 million and included options for up to three annual renewals. Staff said SYB has performed satisfactorily and agreed to maintain bid prices; the capital projects review committee tentatively approved an increase of $6,500,000 to cover the renewal through fiscal year 2025.
Council Member Bob Myers moved to approve the renewal; Mayor Pro Tem Mark Aldridge seconded, and the council voted to approve the contract renewal.
What happens next: Staff will finalize contract documents and proceed with scheduled construction under the renewed contract. City officials said SYB has been responsive and that residents report positive interactions when crews are on-site.
