The Converse City Council voted on Dec. 17 to authorize the city manager to enter into agreements with BB Inspection Services LLC and SafeBuilt Texas LLC to provide residential and commercial plan-review and inspection services.
Assistant City Manager Nina Mendez said the city has relied on third-party inspections for complex commercial projects and that residential activity remains high, with the building department receiving ‘‘between 10 and 12 new home plans a week’’ and about 100 homes under construction.
Councilmembers raised budget questions about the $20,000 allocation for the contracting service and staff confirmed that the current fiscal-year spend to date is $4,600 and that staff will return to council if spending is likely to exceed the budgeted amount. The city attorney reported no legal objections to the contract.
A councilmember moved to approve the item and the motion passed on a voice vote.
Next steps: the city manager will execute the contracts and staff will monitor utilization and return to council if additional budget authority is needed.
