Converse EDC to invest $600,000 in pool improvements and parks planning

The City Council approved an Economic Development Corporation resolution on Dec. 3 to dedicate $600,000 toward improvements at the Converse pool and for parks planning and design.
EDC director Alon told council the board approved the project and that $425,000 is available in the current EDC budget; the EDC will bring a budget amendment to transfer additional funds from its savings to fully fund the project. The funds will be used to match a grant (the packet referenced a $250,000 grant with a $125,000 local match) to cover work such as replastering, pump and filtration replacement, lifeguard stands and other pool amenities.
Alon described design elements in the packet including privacy screening, new shade structures and replacement seating, and said staff will return with contract recommendations for construction once design and procurement steps advance.
Council approved the EDC resolution and staff said the EDC and parks commission will continue design and outreach as part of the project timeline.
