Converse council approves consent agenda; city manager highlights events and water concerns

The Converse City Council approved its consent agenda (items 5A–5C) by voice vote at a special meeting on Nov. 14, 2024. Unidentified Speaker 4 moved to approve the items and Unidentified Speaker 5 seconded; the presiding official announced the motion carried.
City Manager Ronnie Guest Jr. gave the council’s manager report, saying Converse will host the TCMA Region 8 meeting next Friday and that he will speak on "managing through hard times." He praised the city’s first annual Veterans Day parade and detailed an upcoming Raul Menace Thanksgiving dinner at the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center with doors opening at 9 a.m. and a service at 10 a.m.; food service and entertainment were scheduled to run later in the day.
Councilmembers also reported recent community events. One councilmember praised trunk-or-treat turnout, attendance at a police promotion ceremony and the Veterans Day parade; another noted attendance at a Tri-County reception. The mayor/unidentified presiding official described visits to local schools, veterans ceremonies and a Canyon Regional Water Authority meeting that raised drought concerns and noted Canyon Lake was reported to be about 50% full.
No members of the public signed up for the citizens-to-be-heard portion of the agenda. The council later moved to convene an executive session under Texas Open Meetings Act section 551.074 to deliberate the city manager’s evaluation.
