Converse Parks and Recreation Foreman Keith Taylor updated the commission on maintenance issues Nov. 4, reporting vandalism and equipment repairs that affect park operations.
Taylor said the zip line at North Park "is once again defective" and staff were working to repair it. He told the commission that vandalism occurred at City Park Pavilion last Friday: "somebody had knocked down all the, sinks, hand washing sinks," and crews were working to repair the damage with a target of having repairs done by Saturday. Taylor also reported that the City Park fishing dock is temporarily closed because low water has left the dock at too steep an angle.
Commissioners asked about surveillance; Taylor said the police department is working on camera installation but capturing the vandalism on video is difficult because cameras need to cover ingress and egress points. The commission also confirmed that staff installed an access gate at Schumann Park to discourage unsafe parent parking for nearby Salinas Elementary.
No formal votes were taken; commissioners asked staff to continue repairs and coordinate with police on cameras and security.
